Sheffcare sets standard of excellence
Tight budgets are not preventing residents at the eleven Sheffcare residential care homes from enjoying an outstanding level of service.
The latest official statistics show that social care budgets are being cut across the UK and Sheffield fares particularly badly, with the City Council paying between 3 and 14 per cent less per person for elderly social care than any other local authority in the region, including Rotherham, Doncaster, Wakefield or Leeds. The council also pays 49 per cent below the national average towards the cost of a care home place. But SheffCare, established in 1993 as a not-for-profit organisation, is confident that its service is among the best available.
Sheffcare holds the Investors in People award for staff training and our food gets a 5* Blue Flag rating, even recently reaching the semi finals of a national competition for food quality.
“We’re extremely proud of our Care Quality ratings from regulatory authorities,” says Chief Executive Duncan Bell. “In addition, both council and independent evaluators such as Link have given us high praise for the quality of our service. Our 450 staff – including carers, housekeepers, cooks, activity specialists and maintenance men - deserve high praise for the quality of their work.I am extremely proud of the work they deliver 24 hours a day, seven days a week to the 400 residents of our SheffCare homes across the city".
