Case Study Michelle Wright
Michelle Wright
Registered Manager
When I finished full time education I opted for a career in administration; I started as a consumable buyer in the engineering industry. I was made redundant from that job and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next, but I became a child minder and did that for two years. I then took up a role with adults with learning disabilities, which I enjoyed.
A friend suggested that I might like working in care so when a job for domestic assistant came up in 1996 at SheffCare’s Hawkhills Residential home, I applied and was successful. As I gained more confidence and experience I took on a little more responsibility and began assisting in the role of Carer. Over the years I moved up through SheffCare from Carer to Team Leader and then Team Leader and Deputy Manager.
All this experience and support made me realise that I could be successful in my chosen career and it was possible for me to develop even further. A post came up at Knowle Hill for temporary Manager so in July 2004 I moved to Knowle Hill, but in December 2004 I was successful in securing the post of Registered Manager at Paddock Hill. Whilst at Paddock I gained my Registered Managers Award (RMA) and my NVQ Level 4 in Care. I am very happily settled as Registered Manager at Grange Crescent and really enjoy my work.
I have always enjoyed working with people and working in care is truly rewarding as I think caring for others enriches my life too.
