Understanding care home fees and getting help with funding can seem like a daunting task
If you need help at home or plan to move to a care home, there are several ways you may be able to get help with fees.
The Local Authority may contribute towards the cost of your care following a financial assessment. How much you pay each week depends on your income, your savings, and whether you own a home or other property.
You may also be entitled to additional benefits, such as Attendance Allowance or Pension Credit, depending on your circumstances.

You can also contact your local Social Services department for advice about care funding. For information about benefits you may be entitled to, you can contact the Department for Work and Pensions or visit the GOV.UK website.

Our goal is to make funding and costs as straightforward as possible, so you can focus on enjoying the care, support, and activities that enhance your quality of life.
What about my Benefits:
When you move into a residential care home, you usually receive just your basic State Pension and, sometimes, Pension Credit.
Pension Credit
Depending on your income and savings, you may qualify for Pension Credit. This can top up your weekly income and may entitle you to additional support. If you move into a care home, the value of your former home may be temporarily disregarded for up to 26 weeks if you are actively trying to sell it.
Attendance Allowance and other DWP benefits
You must tell the Department for Work and Pensions about any changes in your circumstances. This includes moving into a care home, changes to your care arrangements, hospital stays or changes to who is paying your fees.
Attendance Allowance can help towards the cost of your personal care if you are paying your own care home fees. However, if your placement becomes fully funded by the Local Authority, payments usually stop after 28 days.
If you receive benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions, you must inform them when you move into a care home. You will need to provide the date you moved in and the name and address of the care home.
