Asha Oliver, Grange Crescent’s Registered Manager describes the home: Grange has a good mixture of staff, from all different backgrounds. We have a good reputation, and we get a lot of word-of-mouth recommendations which means a lot to us. When District nurses and social workers recommend us it’s a real compliment.

Our building is in a really lovely location, in a leafy suburb of Sharrow. It’s really peaceful and quiet and someone described it as “a little piece of heaven that’s been hidden”.The home is airy, the rooms are big, and the corridors are spacious and it has a lovely homely feel. We’ve got fantastic grounds, seating in the garden and a good conservatory. The food is good, there’s always a good choice, and its always real home cooked food. There’s lots going on: Movement to music once a week, the Adopt a Care Home scheme that brings children in regularly, Cycling Without Age take our residents out on bike rides.

Our activity workers are great! They’re always thinking up new and creative things to do. We have a brilliant minibus driver, Shaun who takes residents out and about – last week it was a trip to Chatsworth. All our rooms are en-suite and people can personalise them – you can bring your own furniture, pictures, people have even brought pets.

When someone new arrives, we’ll ask you to tell us what you want, at the end of the day this is going to be your home, we have to do everything to make sure the rest of your life is happy. The other day someone said to be “I […] enjoyed it here, I was really nervous but you know what, it’s just like home from home. The staff are lovely.” People have a lot of choice about how they live here - what time they get up, what time they go to bed at night.

We can be flexible with meals, and you can have a cooked breakfast every day if you like. You have the choice to go out if that’s right for you, and we have an open front door policy, there are no restrictions on visiting – you don’t have restrictions in your own home. We’ve always got plenty of snacks available, you can make a drink, and we’ll welcome you to have your own parties and celebrations – we’ll help organise them and we’re great at providing cakes. It’s your home. You can choose to have a glass of wine with dinner.

You can have your whisky nightcap. You can go out to the pub – although we’re just setting up our own bar. We’ve got the hairdresser in twice a week. We have a priest come in and we have a church service in the home once a month. Some residents go out to the synagogue. We also have doctors, chiropodists and district nurses calling in. We always want to hear from you and your relatives so that we can make sure that things are right for you.

We can’t promise that things will be perfect, but we’ll always want to know if we can do better.

It is also important to Sheffcare that we deliver value for money for our residents who fund their own care, we believe that we offer quality care at a very fair price and one that beats many other care home providers in the city.

The weekly fee at The Grange is £930.
